L&T EduTech, the leading arm of L&T in technology-driven education, collaborated with IIT Madras to host the highly anticipated “Smart City Challenge Hackathon” at the prestigious SHAASTRA 2025 Tech Festival. This event brought together the brightest minds from across the country to create innovative solutions aimed at addressing the growing challenges of urban development and sustainability.
The Smart City Challenge Hackathon saw an overwhelming response, with over 650 registrations from diverse teams eager to make a difference. The participants went through a rigorous screening process that ensured only the most innovative and impactful ideas reached the final stage. In the end, 12 finalist teams were selected, each demonstrating exceptional talent and creativity in tackling urban challenges.
The finalist teams presented their ground-breaking ideas, exploring a variety of solutions powered by advanced technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), Renewable Energy, Sustainability, and Climate Resilience. These ideas addressed real-world challenges in urban living, with specific focus on renewable energy integration for smart cities, electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure, urban planning for heritage preservation, and building climate-resilient infrastructure. The teams explored solutions such as creating microgrid architectures, developing renewable energy-powered smart charging stations, optimizing urban planning with digital tools, and designing systems to enhance urban resilience to climate change.
A distinguished panel of Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) from L&T EduTech played a pivotal role in evaluating and mentoring the participating teams. The SMEs provided valuable guidance to help shape the ideas into viable, impactful solutions.
The Hackathon not only fostered a spirit of innovation and collaboration but also showcased the passion and ingenuity of the participants. As a result, the event became a vibrant platform for future engineers, technologists, and entrepreneurs to demonstrate their ability to think critically and drive meaningful change.
