About the Course
This course is introductory to the Design and Construction of Highways and Pavements and lays the foundation for skilling up as a professional pavement engineer. Imparts basic knowledge of highway components, functions, alignments, and geometric design features. The importance of pavement material characterization according to IRC/MoRTH guidelines is outlined through virtual laboratory testing to achieve desired pavement performance. Analyzes the factors that govern pavement design to emphasize the importance of designing flexible and rigid pavements according to IRC specifications with an example. It also describes how to use the IITPAVE software for flexible pavement design and analysis. Aids in construction planning and the requirements of Plants and Machinery based on its functions and operations during construction. Provide pavement construction knowledge with field challenges to acquire expertise in pavement construction practices and quality control. This framework helps learners design and construct pavement by enforcing IRC and MoRTH specifications and guidelines. Case studies are given as project work for assessing comprehension of the course.
