About the Course
This is a foundational course for obtaining knowledge and skills in the area of Power Systems. This course is designed to develop the understanding, challenges and design constraints of AC and DC transmission systems. It provides the learners an ability to understand the constraints of transmission line design, underground transmission system, HVDC transmission system, substations, earthing phenomena. The concepts are weaved with simulations, manual and algorithm-based analysis of problems. The course also covers various case studies on real time challenges and solutions to mitigate them. Do it yourself problem statements from industry on Transmission lines using ETAP and MATLAB is also provided to the learners to get hands on experience on the subject.
Course Objective
- Impart the basic understanding of the structure of electric power system and computation of transmission line parameters
- Evaluate the equivalent circuits for the transmission lines based on distance and to determine the voltage regulation and efficiency. Test cases are demonstrated by using MATLAB
- Illustrate the concept of Mechanical design and analysis of transmission lines with civil foundation Comprehend the different types of surveys and Right of way Crossing
- Analyse the voltage distribution in insulator strings to improve the efficiency, determine the number of insulator strings for different pollution levels and composite cross arms. Cases are demonstrated using MATLAB
- Discuss HVDC transmission system
- Study and Design the AC distribution systems
