On March 31, 2023, L&T EduTech hosted a roundtable discussion on the topic “Prepping CS/IT Graduates for Digital Era Careers” at Larsen & Toubro Head Quarters in Manapakkam, Chennai. Esteemed academic leaders in computer science and information technology attended the intellectually stimulating event, led by Dr Deependra Jha.
The aim of the roundtable was to discuss the challenges and opportunities in bridging the gap between industry demands and the skills of computer engineering science/IT graduates. The event also examined the kind of support that the industry could provide to ensure the academic excellence of future graduates in the field. Senior leaders from L&T focused on the collaboration between industry and academia to improve the employability of computer engineering science/IT. The event also examined the emergence of specialised programmes that would meet industry needs in the coming years.
The discussion highlighted that companies all over the world increasingly struggle to find people with the right skills in the right numbers and at the right times. The event provided a platform for all stakeholders to share their experiences and insights and explore ways in which industry-relevant skill-building initiatives can be part of the regular curriculum.
Speaking about the discussion Dr Jha commented, “Industry and academia must come together to explore newer ways to skill the future workforce. The idea of a ‘bright career’ is very dynamic and multi-faceted. Sometimes, people fear change. They are just scared that some things can outlast their passion for them. There is no one solution that fits all. Our flexibility is what makes us successful. If we are rigid, the future is obsolete for us. We, at L&T EduTech, are constantly innovating newer ways to collaborate with higher education institutions in the country to improve the employability quotient of the students.”
