L&T EduTech Inaugurates KPR Experience Engineering Centre

In continuation with its commitment to developing an industry-relevant engineering education ecosystem in India, L&T EduTech has inaugurated a new experience centre for engineering enthusiasts in the KPR College campus in Coimbatore. KPR Experience Engineering, a joint venture phygital learning centre between L&T EduTech and KPR Institute of Engineering and Technology, Coimbatore (KPRIET), was inaugurated on 23 November, 2022.

L&T EduTech has provided intellectual and mentoring support to KPRIET for this initiative. It has also given the digital content for AR/VR, mobile QR codes, multitouch applications and 3D creation of artefacts along with a content management system. This experiential centre will enable students to learn the fundamentals of engineering materials and their manifested products focusing on interdisciplinary projects and real-time applications.

Earlier this year, in August, S N Subrahmanyan (SNS), CEO and Managing Director, L&T, laid the foundation stone for the centre during his visit to KPRIET. Recognising the strong potential and the prospects of taking this engagement further, an extended agreement was signed between L&T EduTech and KPRIET in the presence of SNS.

The centre was inaugurated by Dr Srivari Chandrasekhar, Secretary, Department of Science and Technology, Government of India; Falgun Chokshi, VP and Head, Hazira and Vadodara Manufacturing Clusters, L&T Heavy Engineering; Dr Sadhana Attavar, Director Visvesvaraya Industrial and Technological Museum, Bangalore and Udhayashankar, Deputy Director, SSC NASSCOM in the presence of Dr K P Ramasamy, founder of KPRIET; Dr Akila M, Principal, KPRIET; R Ganesan, Head, Corporate Centre, L&T; Sabyasachi Das, CEO, L&T EduTech and M F Febin, Head, CollegeConnect Business, L&T EduTech.

This event brought together guests from industry and academia across the country who witnessed India’s first industry-spearheaded immersive engineering learning centre.

DST secretary, Dr Chandrasekhar appreciated the efforts taken by L&T EduTech and the KPR Group for resonating the vision of the Skill India initiative by the Government of India.

Need for More Facilities

India has no dearth of engineering graduates. Studies show that although, on an estimate, about 15 lakh engineering students graduate every year, only a handful prove to be employable in core engineering domains. The sudden surge in emerging technologies has led to an increased demand for niche skill sets along with analytical minds. KPR & L&T EduTech, through such facilities, aim to facilitate conceptual learning and produce industry-ready engineers.

Scope of this Centre

This technology-driven experiential engineering centre promises to impart a holistic learning experience for engineering aspirants and the core engineering community. The centre features 24 engineering 3D models, displays more than 150 engineering materials, 200 minutes of e-learning content spanning across 62 interdisciplinary modules, 10 augmented reality applications and three VR walkthroughs of mega projects by L&T. With mobile QR codes, multitouch and AR/VR applications, 3D models of artefacts and an advanced content management system, the digital assets offer interactive story-telling and comprehensive learning. This will help the learners in connecting the concepts with their materials and their applications in the industry thereby unleashing their curiosities and empowering them to hone their engineering capabilities.
