Overview

Geospatial technology refers to the use of satellite-based GPS, GIS (Geographic Information System), remote sensing, and other related technologies to collect, analyse and interpret spatial and geographic data.

Geospatial technology has become an essential tool for decision-makers in various fields, providing them with accurate and relevant information that helps them make informed decisions. These tools capture spatial information about objects, events and phenomena (indexed to their geographical location on Earth, geotag).

These tools capture spatial information about objects, events and phenomena (indexed to their geographical location on earth, geotag).

The technology may be used to create intelligent maps to help identify spatial patterns in large volumes of data. This technology facilitates decision-making based on the importance and priority of scarce resources.

About Geospatial Technology

India's Digital Vision has a specific focus on leveraging Geospatial Technology for Decision Support Systems and Development.

“Geospatial technology has been driving inclusion and progress. India’s steps at building infrastructure are on the backbone of geospatial technology. India’s geospatial sector had been opened up for its young bright minds,” said the honourable Prime Minister of India.

Geospatial Technologies are considered one of the most powerful technologies that can effectively serve the overall developmental needs of the modern world.

Today, applications and tools are available and are being advanced for improved performance of a country towards all major verticals of the economy including agriculture, mining, infrastructure, transportation, logistics, homeland security, disaster management, defence, urban planning, etc.

About the Programme

This course is prepared to introduce students to the use of geospatial technologies and decision-making through thorough data collection and analysis.

The modules primarily emphasise the use of various geospatial equipment for data creation, mapping and analysis and their applications in the current scenarios.

This course will also cover the applications for field data collection and mapping using online tools and cartography for quality visualisation and representation of conditions, issues, and analysis results.

1st Batch : January 20-24, 2025
2nd Batch : January 27-31, 2025
3rd Batch : February 3-7, 2025
